Have you had any formal firearms training?

Have you had any formal firearms training? Where did you take that training?

I've had some training locally but nothing serious. I would like to get to Frontsight or one of the other training facilities.

The only formal training I've had was in the military and while working in a gun shop. (35+ years of adult experience helps some too)

I think formal civilian training's good if you can afford it at one of the high-end sites, but much of what goes on here locally is aimed at novices and ladies. In those two categories that type of training is very wise and probably wouldn't hurt me if I went either. (Maybe someday)

I think that by getting some good training videos and applying that knowledge on the range with a shooting partner you can acheive pretty good results. I am not saying it is better than going to Gunsite or Blackwater, but it helps.

With a shooting partner you can easily critique each other and learn. I find I get alot of my range time this way. I ain't talking just target shooting either. We actually do tactics and running and gunning on a private range.

So it is better than nothing..

Also got some training in the millitary... I learned how to keep the weapon pointed downrange!!!!

Zombie, you bring up something I completely forgot about. Getting out with friends and family is also great training. My Father, Brother and I all get together and shoot together. We have a friend with a ton of land which allows us to really get out and move around.

Anyone have any experience with the shooting DVD's? Rob Leatham used to do a shooting technique segment at the end of American shooter which greatly help my handgunning skills.

I really like the "Lenny Magill" series of videos. Got lots of good training techniques as well as some interesting subject matter. Like were else can you get a video that teaches the basics of shooting from a vehicle. Check them out @ www.gunvideo.com

I also like some of the Gabe Suarez stuff as well.

YMMV

I have not had any formal training. I do shoot in small uspsa events at the range close to my house. We also have a defensive shooting night, whre you use your ccw holster and shuch. Its a lot of fun, and i have seen a grate inprovment in my shooting over the last few weeks..
